A dad blog by a geek dad with two geeky kids.
Reading is a very enriching activity. It increases your child’s vocabulary and enhances his comprehension skills. Lots of stock knowledge and a good vocabulary increase your child’s confidence, and make it easier for him to express himself. He may turn out to be a good public speaker, or even a great writer. Being an avid reader opens many avenues of growth for your child, and even more windows of opportunity. We really should encourage kids to read. And as parents, we should be avid readers too. You know how kids are. They copy the habits of their parents. So we should lead by example, or rather, read by example. Encouraging our children to read doesn’t mean that we should prevent them from participating in other activities. Definitely not. We should not hinder them from pursuing other equally enriching endeavours. We should also fuel their other interests, whether it’s music, sports, art, or other forms of recreation. We should be supportive of our kids. They need our guidance, but they also need to learn on their own. And again, reading is one of the simplest ways through which children can learn. Read on! Home improvement tips on other sites might tell you to go ahead and buy the best piece of furniture there is. Nothing’s wrong with that, really. Just make sure that whatever you’re going to buy will suit your lifestyle and actually fit inside your house or apartment. If you have money to splurge, go ahead and buy all that ergonomically designed furniture you’ve been eyeing, given that they will get along with the rest of your home interior. Go and buy a vase or two, but you don’t need twenty, do you? You don’t want a stockroom; you want a comfortable living room. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing, as they say. If you really are keen on improving your home, don’t overdo the furniture and décor! Of course you want your house to look good. You want your guests to be impressed by your living room when they visit. You’d probably love to hear your socialite neighbor say “What a sophisticated looking chair!” But what will happen if she actually sits on it? Do you think she’ll feel comfortable? There’s nothing wrong with being stylish, but a comfortable living space is better than one that looks and also feels like a museum, where all you can do is admire what you see but you can’t really sit and stay. If you’re really not talented in interior design, space planning, or fixing your house for that matter, you might want to hire a professional for the job. And if your house looks like a hurricane went through it, you might need to resolve to drastic measures. Home improvement tips are just guidelines that would hopefully make things a bit easier on your part. |
